Candidates enrolling for Ph.D. in OPJS University, Rajasthan will now have to compulsorily study the ethics and misconduct of publication.
University Grants Commission (UGC) has made a two-credit course compulsory at the PhD level looking at the increasing cases of plagiarism and publication misconducts. UGC also says that the quality of research in India is not good, wants scholars to learn about how to avoid data manipulation and the menace of fake journals.

“As part of UGC regulations, OPJS University also included all these topics in Pre-Ph.D. coursework from the academic session 2020-21. Students enrolled in OPJS University also said that it “a good move”. Most students don’t know what source to use for their research and how to avoid plagiarism and keep other checks and balances. A basic knowledge of all this is necessary.”

Dr. Rohit, who teaches at the OPJS University’s School of Pharmacy and has PhD scholars working under him, also viewed this as a positive step.

The syllabus will include philosophy and ethics, and scientific conduct, which will teach scholars about intellectual honesty, falsification, fabrication and plagiarism.
